The Fire District is primarily funded by a property tax levy. The lid for that levy was approved by voters at $1.00 per thousand of assessed value. Due to limits imposed by state statute/initiative, the current levy assessment is only about $0.49 per thousand of assessed value. Our district has the lowest tax levy rate of all of the twenty-plus fire districts in the County. If the levy were to be restored at $1.00 per thousand level, our tax rate would remain among the lowest, at about half the rate assessed by our neighboring districts.
Our fire district currently also relies on non-guaranteed outside funding, like grants and contract wildland firefighting, for the remainder of its operating funds.
